Marking the symbolic handover of the Royal National Mòd from Thurso to the Western Isles a team of relay runners are currently on route to the Isle of Lewis.

On Wednesday the runners left Stornoway to begin the their journey and bring the spirit of the Mòd from the North East to the Islands and by Friday morning they had encountered another ‘spirit’ when they reached the Balblair Whisky Distillery in Tain, Ross-shire.

However runner, Tony Robson assured no drams were consumed – it was much too early for that!

The relay team of runners carry a message from last year’s Mòd Convener to the official Opening Ceremony of the Royal National Mòd 2011 which takes place in the An Lanntair Arts Centre in Stornoway this evening (Friday).

The team of runners completing the symbolic run are: Tony Robson, Gerald Kalchauer, Jim Bruce, Chirsty Macleod, Jonny Pritchard and Spike McIntosh all members of Stornoway Running and Athletics Club.
