Trading Standards Officers are reminding local businesses in the Western Isles not to fall foul of laws that govern contracts made away from business premises.
Regulations state that businesses which sell in the customer’s home, must give prescribed pre-contract information which includes pricing, costs and the name of the business. Importantly, they must give 14 day cancellation rights in a clear, legible and understandable manner.
There are some exemptions in the regulations, for example for contracts costing less than £42.
Guidance for businesses on off-premises sales can be found at www.businesscompanion.info/en/quick-guides/off-premises-sales
