Six Scottish beaches have been named as some of the best beaches in the UK, in the Travellers’ Choice Beaches awards, announced by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site.
And Luskentyre beach in Harris is on the list!
“These awards recognise the best beaches in the UK and worldwide, according to the travellers that have visited and given them the highest levels of praise,” commented James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson.
This year, Scotland scoops six awards for its beaches with Nairn Beach crowned the UK’s tenth best.
Located on the coast of the Moray Firth, just east of Inverness, Nairn Beach enjoys one of the sunniest climates in the country. A sandy beach, Nairn has amazing views across the Moray Firth to the Black Isles and the coastline is home to a resident school of dolphins.
The Isle of Harris’ Luskentyre; Camusdarach Beach in Arisaig, and Aberdeen’s Balmedie Beach, take thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth place respectively.
And Calgary Bay on the Isle of Mull and The Isle of Colonsay’s Kiloran Beach rank 21st and 22nd on the list.
Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland said: “It’s always brilliant to see Scotland’s wonderful beaches getting the recognition they deserve.
“With award-winning islands and over 11,000 km of coastline, one of the great things about this country is that you’re never far from a stroll along a gorgeous white sandy beach.
“From the sand dunes of Nairn to the turquoise waters at Luskentyre, these award-winning beaches are right on our doorstep, and we would encourage everyone to visit in 2014, the year of Homecoming, when Scotland welcomes the world.”
Travellers’ Choice Beaches Award-winners were determined based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches on TripAdvisor gathered over a 12-month period.
