A ship carrying the turbines for the Point and Sandwick Community Windfarm arrived at Arnish yesterday (Wednesday).

This is an exciting milestone for the Point and Sandwick Trust who are working to build the UK’s largest community windfarm at Beinn Ghrideag.

The ship, Abis Cardiff, a Dutch registered vessel, transported the Enercon turbine blades and other parts from Germany. They were due to be unloaded yesterday but due to strong winds this was postponed until today. A further ship from Germany is due to arrive tomorrow (Friday) carrying the main turbine towers.

Four cranes have been assembled at Arnish to take the cargo ashore.

They may be transported to the site by road on Saturday or Monday by police escort.
