Teachers were on picket duty at Sgoil Lionacleit, Benbecula on the recent national day of action. Sgoil Lionacleit along with most other schools was closed.

Said SSTA steward Iain Hogg: “Having reluctantly accepted what amounts to a 10% pay cut in real terms, the government want to impose a 50% increase in pension contributions, with teachers retiring later and having a lower pension. We have reluctantly responded to a situation of the government’s making. No profession worth its salt would accept this’

Mr. Hogg thanked the public for their support. ‘The public recognize that that in a country where the gap between rich and poor has never been greater, it is unfair that public servants and public services are paying the price for government and banking failures.”

The one day strike on November 30th saw two million workers across the UK take action. Hospitals, Schools, Council and Civil Service staff were involved.
