The Comhairle is pleased to announce that Tighean Innse Gall, the local housing agency for the Outer Hebrides, has been appointed as the lead contractor for delivering the Universal Home Insulation Scheme on the islands.

The Universal Home Insulation Scheme is a Scottish Government initiative designed to provide energy efficiency measures to households across the islands.

The Comhairle was successful in bidding for £350k of funding from the Scottish Government to implement the Scheme, which will see a range of measures including roof and cavity wall insulation, draught-proofing and boiler replacement vouchers, being made available to qualifying householders. The Comhairle is also contributing £50k of its own funding towards the Scheme.

Tighean Innse Gall will be working in partnership with other local bodies, including TEAS, Sustainable Uist and Coimhearsnachd Bharraidh agus Bhatarsaidh, to deliver these measures, and will shortly be starting a marketing campaign to let householders know about the proposals.

TIG will also be working closely with the Energy Savings Scotland Advice Centre (ESSAC) to raise awareness of other energy saving initiatives that may be available.

Councillor Norman A Macdonald, Chair of the Comhairle’s Environment and Protective Services Committee said: “I am very pleased that a local organisation has been appointed to deliver the Universal Home Insulation Scheme and I look forward to these initiatives making an impact on the level of fuel poverty in the Outer Hebrides”.
