Western Isles Conservation Officer Martin Scott recently came across a Blue Shark washed up on Barvas beach.
He said: “They are unusual and this was an unexpected find. From what I can ascertain they are probably around occasionally in offshore waters and one was found last year beached on Barra in October. “This one was 6 foot long and a female, and it is suspected to be a pregnant female.
“It is currently in frozen storage until we work out how to get it to the National Museum in Edinburgh.
“Several other groups such as the shark Trust have been on seeking samples from the beast to allow further research into this little known species.
