Up close and personal with Skipinnish

Skipinnish are a six-piece musical whirlwind - a furious fusion of islanders and students who soared past One Direction in the download charts in 2014 with hit single ‘Walking on the Waves’.

With six albums under their belts, hundreds of thousands of online views and a reputation as one of the best live acts in the country, BBC ALBA follows these colourful characters as they storm through their sixteenth year of creating foot-stomping anthems.

Exclusive behind the scenes access throughout 2015, both on and off the road, provides a unique window into the craic and the chaos as they balance their hectic touring schedule with their daily lives.

Join the band as they journey from the intimacy of the studio to an epic main stage performance at Tiree Music Festival and everywhere in between over the course of an unforgettable year for Skipinnish.

In this revealing programme, filmed throughout 2015, we get up close and personal with the award-winning musicians behind this musical success story as they build on their burgeoning reputation.

We’ll meet Angus, an ex-fisherman who honed his accordion skills at the esteemed RSAMD; Andrew, co-founder of the band, who plays whistle and the Great Highland bagpipe; singer, guitarist and Mod gold medallist Robert; Ross, a talented multi-instrumentalist and producer; Alasdair, a master drummer; and Kyle, an expert on the bagpipes.

Produced by HG Productions for BBC ALBA, Skipinnish will be shown on BBC ALBA on Friday 1 January at 9.55pm until 10.55pm.

It will be repeated on Wednesday 2 January at 11.00pm and will also be available on BBC iPlayer following transmission.
