Home deliveries from the Co-op will not be disrupted despite the supermarket’s van catching fire on its way back from Harris this morning (Friday).
The Fire Brigade attended and the driver was uninjured.
The van was was empty as it was returning from a delivery so no groceries were damaged.
The store has another delivery vehicle and so home deliveries will be unaffected,
A spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said:
“One of our home delivery vehicles suffered a mechanical fault and caught fire earlier today (Friday 27 April) at Balallan, while returning from a delivery on Harris. The driver was uninjured and the van was empty at the time. The Fire Brigade were called out.
“The vehicle operates from our Macaulay Road store in Stornoway, but as we have more than one vehicle our home delivery service from the store is unaffected.”
