Stornoway Police are advising the public to secure bicycles when left unattended , following several reports of theft in the Stornoway area lately.
The simple advice is to ensure that the bicycle is not left unattended. If it is then it should be properly secured by means of a suitable lockingdevice. These are available at any cycle shop.
Owners are also asked to keep a full description of the bicycle which should include details such as make, model , serial number, colour, other distinguishing marks/features, cost and any security markings they might have so that if theft occurs these details can be provided to the police.
Anyone who has lost a bicycle should always contact the local Police Station and ask for a check of the found property log to see if it has already been handed in. This will allow the police to quickly reunite owner and bicycle.
