The Western Isles Conservative Association have noted with sadness the passing of Lady Thatcher.
In a statement they said: “The Western Isles Conservative Association notes with sadness the passing of Lady Thatcher after a long illness borne with courage and dignity as was in her character.
When the Conservative and Unionist party, under her leadership, won the 1979 general election the country was in inexorable decline at a time of great difficulty in the nation’s history.
“Through unshakable convictions and by making some very difficult decisions she transformed the country’s economy and restored Britain’s reputation in the eyes of the world.
“Her belief in hard work, self determination, individual freedom and meritocracy struck a chord with many in the Outer Hebrides.
“We in the Western Isles Conservative Association wish to convey our sincerest condolences to her family and our appreciation of a leader guided by conviction and principle and who was motivated only by consideration of the country’s best interest.”
