Stornoway resident Ian Stephen has collected folk tales and stories from the long chain of islands that comprises the Outer Hebrides.
The stories are a mixture of traditional tales, recollections, premonitions and strange sightings.
Many of the tales derive from the geography of the islands and the historical importance of the fishing industry and the sea to islanders.
Travelling from south to north, from Barra Head to Butt of Lewis, as far as the outlying North Rona, Ian retells each island or area’s traditional stories in his own widely experienced storyteller’s voice.
Many of the stories, originally told in Gaelic, have been shared many times so Ian has presented each tale in his own unique manner but has provided references for his sources.
Illustrated with maps and line-drawings by visual artist Christine Morrison.
The book is priced at £9.99 paperback through your local bookshop.
