BT have started works to repair the islands’ internet infrastructure as demanded by an online petition.
The petition, started by Keith Morrison of Stornoway’s Wee Studio, quickly gathered 500 signatures, with MP Angus Macneil and MSPs Alasdair Allan and Jamie McGrigor lending support.
Alasdair Allan said: ““A number of people have raised the issue with me about BT being unresponsive to long standing complaints about a decline in broadband speeds in some areas. I have asked BT if they are able to respond to the individual complaints as well as the wider issue.”
A spokesman for BT said: “We’re aware that a number of people have been experiencing slower broadband speeds than usual and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. As a result, we are carrying out engineering work in Stornoway exchange this week which is
freeing up capacity. In the longer term, further engineering work is being planned at Stornoway, Back and Crossbost exchanges.
