Airidhantuim Youth Club met with members of Eriskay and Iochdar Youth Clubs on a recent visit to the Southern Isles.

Airidhantuim Youth Club have this year been busy fund raising with soup lunches/wheel of fortune etc to enable them to undertake a weekend trip to the Southern Isles. The trip coincides with the Year of Island Culture currently taking place from April this year.

The idea behind the trip was to let the youngsters visit other islands and meet up with youth groups from there. This was successfully achieved on the Saturday evening when they all came together in Eriskay Community Centre after playing a number of football games on Cnoc na Monadh and then meeting up for a games and buffet night.

The weekend was a great success and included a trip to Kismul Castle in Barra and a glorious afernoon on the sands of Vatersay. A cultural trip to Kildonan Museum in South Uist was also included. Airidhantuim Youth Club members stayed on Eriskay over the weekend and are grateful to Catriona MacKinnon from Eriskay Youth Club and Ronnie MacCormick from Iochdar Youth Club for making the trip such a success and they hope to return the hospitality at a later date. Grateful thanks also to all who attended the fund raising events in the Clan MacQuarrie Centre and to local companies in Lewis who donated prizes for the Wheel of Fortune. Thank you also to the local councillors for their financial support towards the trip.
