REPRESENTING the Western Isles at the International Island Games 'Water Ceremony' is athlete Eilidh Mackenzie.
Eilidh is the first, and so far the only, Western Isles Gold medallist from the games having won the 800m event in Rhodes, 2007.
Eilidh is a Foreign Languages student at Heriot Watt University in
Edinburgh and is the first athlete from the West
ern Isles to represent
Scotland at a national level.
The bottle Eilidh will be carrying during the 'Water Ceremony' is a
traditional Egg Bottle (so called due to its distinctive shape) that came from a boat wreck near the famous Iolaire wreck.
Eilidh was born and brought up in the village of Holm, where the memorial to the sailors of 'The Iolaire' can be found.

On their way to Aland
The Flag Bearer will be Donald Macinnes, from Uist. A member of the
Shooting squad, Donald competed in both the Shetland and Rhodes Games and has been competing regularly in the Scottish events since the last
Games.
