IT was a typical summer's day at Upper Coll. Even the brass monkeys were wearing woolly hats as the wind chilled the parts no other wind can reach. Unfortunately the football couldn't warm the fans up as both teams served up a lukewarm first half display.
Back took the lead after only a few minutes when the Point defence failed to clear their lines and Inny Red thumped the ball beyond an angry Alex Wright. Back had most of the first half possession but a combination of poor finishing and some solid Po
int defending ensured that chances were going to be few.

Midway through the half Back's Jason Macleod had a lucky escape when he brought down a Point attacker just outside the box. Referee Angus Beaton failed to produce a card when some of those watching thought he could have walked.

With only five minutes of the half remaining it was comedy time as Alex Wright found himself in no man's land chasing Scott Maciver well outside his box like a scene from Benny Hill but fortunately for him Back could not find a way to get the ball into the open goal.

The second half started like the first with Back doubling their lead within a few minutes after some good work from Michael Mackay saw his cut back superbly driven home by Euan 'Moley' Macleod.

Back brought on Hector MacPhee but found a third goal hard to come by as Point dragged themselves back into the game. Duncan Hunter found himself out wide on the right, cut inside and smacked a cracking shot from all of 20 yards which rattled off the crossbar. In midfield young Andrew Murray was impressive but up front was where Point lacked any punch to trouble the mercurial Ross Hall and his defensive cohorts.

Chances were few and far between with Michael Mackay and Martin Maclean both failing to test Alex Wright in goal as Back searched for the killer third. It finally came in the last minute when Ali Tolsta played in Hector MacPhee. Alex Wright seemed favourite but cleared the ball off Hector's legs and watched in despair as it cannoned into the net.
