Fears over future of Glasgow Island team
AFTER nine years at the helm, Davie 'Ox' Macleod has confirmed he will finally step down as Glasgow Island manager at the end of this season.
The team, alas, are in a perilous state player-wise and a major recruitment drive is necessary.
At the moment it is proving hard to secure a manager for next season because of the situation with players.
Assistant manager Murdo John Graham insists that the team are in very real danger of folding at the end of the season if a suitable response is not forthcoming.
He said: "Despite the successes of last season, a series of injuries and players moving away from Glasgow made our situation very difficult.
"We haven't recruited in any great number for a while now, so the need for new players is pretty grave.
"We still have top performers like Danny Mackenzie, Iain France and Michael Mackay, but the thinness of the squad has caused us real problems this season.
"I'm convinced there are good players in Glasgow from the islands who are missing out on football, and this is an excellent chance for them to get involved.
"I hope this recruitment attempt has the desired effect because if not then I can't see there being a team for much longer - and that would be a very sad situation."
