AROUND £8000 was raised for the Bethesda Hospice Appeal as a result of
the football match between Second Division winners Ross County and a
Lewis and Harris Select in Stornoway last week.
The match, although a goal-less draw at Goathill Park, was a notable feat for the local lads as they were facing the Victoria Park's first team.

Organised by Kenny 'Fiadh' Maciver, one of the Bethesda's fundraising team and chairman of the Lewis and Harris Football Association, the Ross County squad were given lunch at Bethesda and then toured the nursing home and hospice.

The match took place on Friday evening and there was then a buffet dinner and an auction at the town's Caladh Inn afterwards.

The main auction for Cuidich Bethesda (the Support Bethesda campaign) will be held in Stornoway Town Hall on Saturday, May 24, and organisers are hoping that islanders will be looking out suitable items.

Already many local firms have promised to give either financial support or to donate items for the auction.

To find out more about the work of Bethesda and its fundraising push this year to complete vital building works go to their website.
