AFTER 13 years of blood, sweat and tears, spòrsnis finally opens its doors to the public today (Monday), at midday.
spòrsnis was formed in June 1995 to consider indoor sporting facilities for the community.

Following much consultation within the community it was discovered that there was a huge demand, not only for sports facilities but also for modern facilit
ies for evening classes, academic and vocational.

There was also a demand for the likes of cookery demonstartions, flower arranging, sauna, multiigym, online learning, yoga and a long list of other activities.

The spòrsnis facility was built with these demands in mind – the building was designed to encapsulate as many of the community's needs as possible.

The new facility consists of a large hall, which will be used for sports, conferences, weddings etc; a fitness suite and sauna; three seminar rooms; community space; children's play area and some office accommodation.

In the original plans for spòrsnis, there was to have been a 2 lane 10-pin bowling rink but sadly, the company which was to have installed this equipment went into receivership, taking with it a substantial sum of money from spòrsnis.

This was the one biggest disappointment to have been faced by spòrsnis as the 10-pin bowling was always seen as a substantial income generator.

Efforts are currently going on to try and reinstate the 10-pin bowling into the facility.

spòrsnis will be open from 12.00 noon to 9.00pm, six days a week, and initially will be run by two part-time staff along with volunteers.

We are currently actively seeking members of the community to help with the various tasks needed to keep the place going, i.e. reception work, cleaning duties etc so would love to hear from anyone with any time to spare, be it an hour a week or three hours a week.

Please contact Donald or Kellie at 810 039.
