The Western Isles team have secured their first medal! Alison Campbell only recently decided to race in the 10,000m track event and came third with a fantastic time of 38:02:30
This is fantastic news for the Western Isles team, and a complete surprise given that she had never competed in this
track event before. Alison commented: "I am delighted to have been placed to have gained bronze and it is so unexpected. It was only recently I decided to run in the event as I am normally a half marathon competitor. This has given me a great boost going into Friday's half marathon competition and I have gained fantastic experience in an event I have never competed in before."

A disappointing day for our footballers who were both playing against a fellow Celtic island, the Isle of Man. The women were first up, playing in the scorching heat at 4pm. The team began very well and the first half was exciting and fast paced. Jenna Stewart scored a sublime goal in the 30th minute equalising with the Manx side to make it 1-1.

However, in the second half the Isle of Man really showed their strength, scoring three further goals which saw them win 4-1. Tomorrow (Wednesday) they face the Isle of Wight in another 4pm clash.

The men's side lost 5-0 to the Manx side. Following on from the success of the men's first game against Gotland where they secured a 2-1 victory, morale was high going into the second match. But the Isle of Man team, like their female counterparts demonstrated their sheer power and class. This evening they will play against the Falklands in the final group match. To ensure qualification to the final stages the Western Isles team need a win against the Falklands and the Isle of Man need to lose their match against Gotland.

Our young athletes, Rory McLure and Stewart Chalmers competed in the 800m heats and although they did not qualify for the finals they did themselves and the Western Isles team proud. Both boys secured personal bests with Rory knocking four seconds off his previous time. Stewart led the way in his heat up until the 600m mark and finished a close third. The boys were delighted at their performance and have gained invaluable experience at competing to an extremely high standard.

In another part of the island, our swimmers were taking to the water in very hot temperatures inside the arena. Caitlin Russell Smith and Kathryn Offer both achieved personal bests, finishing in 20th and 17th positions respectively. They will complete in more events tomorrow along with Grant MacLeod.

Tuesday is another action packed day of competitions with Eilidh MacKenzie taking part in the 1500m finals this evening and Eve Carrington competing in her first competition of the Games, the 100m hurdles.
