Stornoway United FC 1 Uist & Barra FC 6

Stornoway United's under 16s met the Uist & Barra FC select squad again in Tarbert on Saturday and on this occasion were soundly beaten 1-6.
The first half was a very even contest with both sides creating numerous chances.

Uist & Barra scored first with a long range shot from Donald Maclean beating Ali 'Govig' Maclennan in the United goal. New signing Adam Harris rounded an impressive
debut in midfield scoring a deserved equaliser for the Lewis side from a deflected long range effort which took the ball beyond the visitors' goalkeeper.

Just before the interval a superb pass with the outside of the boot from Craig Ferguson split the United back line and Michael Macinnes calmly slotted a second for the Uist side from close range.

United made a number of changes at half time and this seemed to affect the crisp passing they had produced in the first half. In saying that the powerful play that the Uist & Barra side had displayed in the first encounter three weeks ago began to come to the fore.

Neil Sinclair secured a third for Uist from a goal mouth scramble despite several last ditch blocks from United's defence. Michael Macinnes scored a well deserved second and third to complete his hat trick on the day.

Despite the pressure in the second half this game wasn't as one sided as the score suggested. United continued to create chances and hit the woodwork three times. United's stand out player Caz Macphee struck the bar, Adam Harris hit the post with a half volley and then James Gunn hit a powerful strike from 25 yards that rattled the bar. Craig Ferguson rounded off the scoring for Uist and Barra.

United would like to wish their opponents the best of luck in their forthcoming tournament in England. Thanks to Neil Mulhern, ref on the day, and to Harris FC for allowing the junior sides to play their game prior to their senior game against Benbecula.
