THE Pearl Mixed Triples bowls competition due to have been played last Saturday did not even get started because of the rain and bad forecast and will now be played this Saturday, weather permitting.
It is assumed the same teams as were entered will be able to play this week but the sheet is back up on the notice board for any necessary changes or deletions and indeed any new teams who could not play last week.
The Club Championship is now wel
l under way although with only twenty-one entrants and sadly not including reigning champion John O'Connor who would be going for three in a row but has had a spell in hospital and cannot play.
He is recovering well however as is our oldest playing member Isa Dickman who also had a spell in hospital and operation recently.
Results to date are as follows: Preliminary round – Duncan Macmillan 21, Angus Murray 11; John Macaskill 21, Alex Dan Campbell 19; Kenneth Macleod 21, John Norman Macleod 15; Margaret Macleod 21, Angus Macdonald 6; Norman Macleod 21, James Macleod 12;
First round – Duncan Maclean 21, 'Cab' Stewart 8; Mike Ferris 21, Jimmy Legge 14; Bob Ferguson 21, John Macaskill 8; Bernard Allen 21, Norman Macaskill 15; Duncan Macmillan 21, Margaret Macleod 11; Kenneth Macleod 21, Norman Macleod 17; Willie Morrison 21, Ian France 15.
Young James Macleod did well to be leading past champion Norman Macleod 12-9 after ten ends before Norman took control.
Norman Macaskill also did well and was beating Bernard Allen 15-14 after fifteen ends before Bernard wrapped it up with seven shots on the next two ends.
In the quarter-finals to be played this week Kenneth Macleod will play Duncan Macmillan, Bob Ferguson the winner of the tie still to be played between Sheena Macdonald and Dan Macmillan, Mike Ferris is against Duncan Maclean, and Willie Angie Morrison against Bernard Allen. T
The semi-finals are due to be played on Monday 25th and the final on Wednesday 27th.
Entries close tonight for the Jim Scobie Quaich singles competition which is open to any member who has never won a singles competition outdoor or indoor and will be played next Monday and Tuesday while a week on Saturday the Fjord Cup diminishing bowls pairs competition will be held.
The big news this week however is that Colin Ross, President of Westercraigs, is bringing over an Inverness Area Select team of twenty-one bowlers and three supporters to play a challenge match against Stornoway on Friday 19th September.
Most of them have not been to Stornoway before so we will have to pull out all the stops to welcome them and of course beat them!
