Western Isles track star, Eilidh Mackenzie has done it again and grabbed gold.
The gold medal winner in the 800m and bronze in the 1500m in Rhodes, Eilidh MacKenzie, romped home two seconds ahead of the field in the 1500m to
give the Western Isles squad their first gold of the games.
This evening's race took place at 7.50pm local time, and Eilidh put in a phenomenal performance. She looked comfortable and strong throughout the race and finished with a time of 4.34.83, way outperforming her fellow competitors.
Eilidh said: "I was quite pleased with the way I ran, the other girls gave me a hard time and it was a good race. Rachael Franklin from the Isles of Man who finished in second place was on my shoulder the whole time. I was holding on as hard as I could for the last 600m and thinking 'please don't go past me'."
Earlier in the evening the anthem of the Western Isles team, Bays of Harris, could be heard throughout the Wiklöf Holding Arena when Alison Campbell received her bronze medal for the 10,000m.
