IT'S going to be a first for Lewis as organisers are hoping that the Stornoway Lunar Walk, planned for Friday, August 27, will prove a popular addition to the island's fitness and fundraising event calendar.
Based on the same principles as the annual Edinburgh Moon Walk, Stornoway resident Eilidh Thompson – who has teamed up with Women's Cancer Challenge organisers Tony and Kirsty Wade to arrange the event – explains the reasons behind setting up an island counterpart: "I've been wanting to do the Moon Walk for a number of years now, but I, like I'm sure a lot of people on the island, never have the time to go down to Edinburgh to take part."
The first Stornoway Lunar Walk however will take the form of a 10k and all funds raised will be donated to the Lewis branch of Cancer Research UK.
The walk will begin at 9pm on Friday, August 27, starting in Stornoway town centre.Entry forms are available from Lewis Sports Centre and Sportsworld and the entry fee for the event is £10.
