Stornoway RFC 17 10 Moray RFC

STORNOWAY enjoyed their first win of the season in Caledonia Div 2 last Saturday, with a dominant display against Moray at Bayhead. The Island side had suffered five straight losses going in to the game but were confident of notching a win against the Elgin outfit.

Head coach Angus Mackay was relieved with the win but still not happy with parts of the performance. He said: “We started well and dominated the first half but only came away with 10 points, that’s a poor return for the amount of possession we enjoyed.”

His comments, which some may see as harsh, are all too true. The home side controlled possession and territory for most of the opening 40 minutes, but while putting the visitors under constant pressure, they also gifted them the opportunity to clear their lines with stupid penalties.
