ATHLETES of The Nicolson Institute were celebrating success last week, bringing home medals from both the North of Scotland Track and Field Championships in Inverness and the Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth.
Many of those who took part in the events – which took place in Inverness on Tuesday and Grangemouth on Friday and Saturday – are members of the Stornoway Running and Athletics Club (www.srac.org.uk) as an initiative to have more collaboration between the school and the club has clearly paid off in big style!
Nikki Arthur, Chemistry teacher at the Nicolson Institute, who has recently taken on the role of co-ordinator for athletics at the school and works closely with SRAC, said: “The Nicolson Institute pupils have done extremely well and we are all very proud at the school of their achievements..
“I look forward to working alongside the SRAC and the athletics coach at the Nicolson in order to continue competing at such a high level. Well done to all involved.”
A total of 16 Nicolson pupils travelled across to Inverness on Tuesday, June 7, returning with an overall haul of 11 medals split between pupils Jodie Sinclair, Karen Finnie, Alicia MacSween, Jenny Mactaggart, Amanda Nicolson, Michael MacMillan and Alasdair Rigby.
