Four island men took a massive leap for Dun Eisdean Dementia Unit when they took part in a charity skydive.
Allan and Ian Alasdair Macritchie and Alex and Willie Gunn took on the challenge and raised £4,000 to boost the local facility.
There are over 400 people with a diagnosis of Dementia in the Western Isles with a majority of those peopl at present being cared for at home by relatives and home carers.
Dun Eisdean Dementia Unit is a 12 bedded Unit with 11 permanent Service Users and one room set aside providing respite care for anyone in the Community with Dementia to give them a break.
Describing more about the experience, Allan said: “What an experience, absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend it. The money was raised for The Dementia Unit at Dun Eisdean because of the high standard of care that dad is receiving in the respite unit and others that attend the unit.
“I would like the money to go towards redecorating, new carpet, curtains, bedding, recliner, dresser, installation of a digital aerial, Sky - so residents will have the benefit of various channels, DVD Player and the possibility of Skype so people can communicate with family at home and abroad. If the money goes towards even making some of these things become a reality, it will greatly benefit the unit and we feel great to be able to help that happen.”
