Once more Stornoway joined the Bridge playing world to take part in the simultaneous pairs charity event for Children in Need.
The event is organised by Anna Gudge and Mark Newton (formerly from Suffolk but now residing in Orkney) and their website makes for interesting reading www.ecatsbridge.com.
So far the pair at the top of the leader board are from England with 71.67% - Stornoway may not make it into the top 15 but they will have come pretty close.
The Club welcomed back Brian Moore who was over from Ireland for a week on business. Bryan Harris kindly offered to lend Brian his partner so Colin Scott swopped one Bryan for another on Tuesday.
Henk Graauwmans partnered Jimmy Ogilvie and the remainder players had their regular partners. The table money was £5 (and included a raffle ticket) with all of it going to the Charity and with an additional donation the club raised £110.
You know how some days things just don’t go right and you wondered why you bothered getting out of bed?
Well, Irene MacKenzie was ready to throw in the towel way before the half way mark on Tuesday but she kept plodding on and managed a great result on board 18 making a 5CX contract against Rita MacDonald and Janet Smith.
Jimmy and Henk didn’t have the best of evenings either but were the only E/W pair to score points on board 15. They defeated an ambitious 4H bid by Irene and Harris by one trick.
This week, in third place, were Rita and Janet with 57%. It was a great night for Janet as she was also the winner of one of the raffle prizes.
In second place were Ken MacDonald and Dave Gormley with 60%. Their score cards makes impressive viewing and they were the only pair to bid and make a slam on board 5.
In first place with an excellent score of 67% were Stewart MacDonald and NL MacDonald (pictured). NL must have enjoyed playing board 23 making his 4SX bid against Murdo Kennedy and Norah MacDonald while Stewart continues to be the leading player this season.
