Boys under 15s, girls and under 17 girls set off.

This season’s Lewis and Harris cross country race series culminated on Saturday with yet another excellent turn out of over 200 competitors.

A record turnout over the series with more than over 300 different athletes taking part.

The Senior men’s race was again won by 15-year-old sensation Connor MacLean as he continues his preparation for the inter counties cross country final in Birmingham next month. Second place was taken by Murdo Alex MacKenzie, series gold medal winner, from Jason Laing in third place and series

silver medalist. Bronze medallist over the series was Donnie MacMillan.

The Senior Women’s result was won by Katie MacKenzie, with Jayne Miller and Julie McIntosh second and third respectively. Only two ladies completed all three races in the series. Congratulations to Katie and Julie who took home gold and silver series medals.

The series gold medal for the under 20 category was won by Duncan MacKellar with Fraser Binns taking silver, These athletes run in the same race as the Senior men and Duncan took second place in the final race, finishing ahead of Murdo Alex for the first time in the process.

The under 17 boys category was the most closely fought contest of the series, with the overall result coming down to the final race. A win for Kenneth MacSween on Saturday saw him tie on series points with third placed Michael Smith, however two previous wins were enough to secure the series gold for Michael, with silver for Kenneth. Jamie Sullivan took second place on Saturday to win overall bronze. Congratulations too for Lena Toor who was the only under 17 girl to complete the series.
