There were no league games this week, what with it still being the close-season. However, Wednesday night did see the Allan Dowie Shield final. And what a final it was!
We saw the Sea Angling A team take on the All Stars in an Epic 9 game competition. First up was Willie Reid (133) for the A Team against Alex “Momby” Morrison (121, 100 x 3). It was 0 – 1 up to the All Stars after 3 legs as Momby beat Willie.
The A Team equalised in the second game as Murdo Alex (140, 137, 123, 100 x 3) beat Finlay (140, 100 x 5) in 3 legs.
The third game also went to the A Team as Alex Keiller (140, 100 x 3) beat the All Star’s Dave (100 x 3), also in three legs.
The fourth game must be described as the singles game of the evening. Firstly, it went to five legs, and secondly, it involved some good high scoring and finishes. Rory (140 x 2, 100 x 4) took the first leg with a 76 check-out, hitting 20, 16 and D20.
Murdo (140, 135, 121, 105, 100 x 5) made it 1 – 1 in this game winning the second leg. Rory took the third leg and the fourth went to Murdo with a terrific 82 check-out, hitting bull and D16.
Murdo also took the fifth deciding leg to make it 2 – 2 with one singles game remaining.
The first leg went to Tesco Sam (105, 100 x 2) for the A Team before Jamie took legs two and three.
The pressure was on Sam in the fourth leg, but he took it well, managing an 80 checkout, hitting 20, D20 and D10.
Sam also took the fifth leg making it 3 – 2 to the A Team going into the triples and doubles.
The triples saw Murdo Alex, Alex K. (100) and Rory for the A Team lose to Finlay (100), Momby and Murdo. 3 – 3 with only the two doubles games left to play.
Momby and Finlay (100) came out victorious against Rory and Alex K. (100) giving the A Team it all to play for in the final doubles game. Murdo Alex (140, 137) and Sam beat Murdo (100) and Jamie to make the score 4 – 4 and provide us with the second 1001 decider of the competition.
The A Team put forward Alex K., Rory, Sam (100), Murdo Alex and Willie against Momby, Finlay, Dave, Murdo and Jamie.
The All Stars won to become the latest winners of this prestigious competition.
