Emergency Services charity cycle

A CONVOY of 40 cyclists will use pedal power alone to get from Barra to the Butt of Lewis next week all in aid of the local branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Organised by the Emergency Services, the team includes many of those who work in the police and fire service but also those from a variety of different backgrounds.

Team member George Murray, from Stornoway Police Station says the group have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the public.

“We are really humbled by the staggering amount of support we have received and the generosity of people in hard times.”

They are being offered valuable assistance from local businesses Galson Motors and Hebridean Motors and also are being supported by HebSAR and Northern Constabulary.

George explained that last year’s event had seen a smaller team take on the challenge for Crossroads and this year they had once again chosen a local charity – one which covers the whole Western Isles.

The team aim to complete their challenge in three days catching some much needed sleep at Sgoil Lionacleit and the Scaladale Centre on the way.

To sponsor the team you can call into the Royal Bank of Scotland and donate to their account directly. The account number is 1071 8464 with Sort Code 83 27 12.
