Fifth place for Stornoway triathlete

Stornoway triathlete Christina Mackenzie crossed the chalk in the ETU Challenge Long Distance Triathlon European Championships in fifth place – a highly creditable result in a race said to be the oldest triathlon in Europe.

Taking part in the women’s 35-39 years age group, Christina came home in 11:50:47 amidst a strong field of rival competitors – and just 12 weeks after being hospitalised after an accident left her with a broken clavicle.

In under three months, Mackenzie recovered from surgery which left her with a plate and screws in her shoulder to placing for a medal at an international triathlon event.

See next week’s Stornoway Gazette for a full interview with Christina.
