THE Nicolson Institute senior boys football team stormed into the last eight of the North of Scotland Cup with a 5-2 away caning of Kingussie High School to set up a home clash with one of Dingwall, Culloden or Inverness High School.
Sam Macsween, Innes Ian Morrison, Gordon Maclennan and a Cally Macleod brace did the damage to a shell-shocked Kingussie side who were sent crashing out of the prestigious competition.
The final score didn’t flatter the impressive Stornoway schoolboys who played well but it was actually the hosts who settled first and launched the first raid on goal. NI skipper Caz Macphee did his best impression of Bambi on ice on the treacherous underfoot conditions which and as a result allowed Kingussie a free shot on goal which was easily gathered by Ally Macleod.
The chance gave the visitors a kickstart which sparked them into life. Jack Rivett produced an arm-busting long thrown in which pin-balled around the box before falling invitingly for Sam Macsween who swiveled before curling an exquisite finish into the far top corner from 18-yards.
