Five star comeback for Nicolson boys
The Nicolson Institute Senior team fought back from a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3. SGD24667.
COLIN MACLEAN lit up a deathly cold December day with a stunning four-goal haul to help the Nicolson Institute march into the third round of the Schools Scottish Cup.
But it was the clichéd game of two entirely different halves which left team coach Willie Macaulay marvelling at their powers of recovery although his teen troops left him on edge by dicing with death all too frequently.
On the cusp of the interval the Nicolson were trailing 3-1 and but for a matter of inches it would have been 4-1 when a dropping lobbed effort rippled the roof of the net.
Instead they went in for a half-time orange, and a quick reshuffle by Macaulay, just a goal behind. It was a match of decidedly dodgy defending from corner kicks and cross balls but twinned with electric attacking prowess.
In the end the Nicolson secured a 5-3 victory. For the full match report see this week’s Stornoway Gazette out on Thursday, December 6th.
