National Men’s Health Week, an annual fixture in the NHS Western Isles calendar, is being held this year from June 10th to 16th.
Men’s Health Forums throughout the Western Isles have organised a series of events for men throughout the week (June 10-16), as well as offering health information and advice to men on any health matters.
Events include the following:
Tuesday 11th June - Deep Water Fitness Session
Lewis Sports Centre, 7.30pm-8.15pm. Cost £2 (limited spaces available)
Wednesday 12th June – 7-a-side Works & Trades Football Competition
All Weather Pitch, 6.30pm-10pm. Cost £10 per team.
Thursday 13th June – Golf Texas Scramble
Stornoway Golf Club, 6.30pm-9pm. Cost £3 per team (trophy for team with lowest score).
Friday 14th June – Waterpolo
Lewis Sports Centre, 7pm onwards. Cost £4 per team (limited spaces available)

During Men’s Health Week, men are also encouraged to take part in the 3×7 Western Isles sporting challenge – to do 3k per day for 7 days – doing any form of exercise i.e. running, walking, jogging, cycling, etc. The 3×7 is a challenge in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and part of the forthcoming Western Isles 3×30 Campaign.
Activities are open to men aged 16+ and men/teams must register in advance by contacting Steven Munro, Lewis Sports Centre, tel. 01851 822285. All proceeds raised are being donated to a local charity.
