Football supporters on the island have an opportunity this Saturday to witness not one but two Junior cup finals.

The first one is the Under 16 League Cup Final sponsored by the Lews Castle College between Western Thistle and United, which kicks off at 2pm at Goathill Park.

The second match is the Under 14 Kemnay Cup Final sponsored by CIB Service, which kicks off at 7pm at Goathill Park. The match is a repeat of last year’s cup final between Back and United, which Back won 4-1. This year United start as favourites and James Macaulay gave the following analysis of his squad:

Craig Ross Goalkeeper - Tall and is comfortable with ball at feet also distributes ball well.

Captain Seumas Maciver Centre Back - Tall Strong Centre Half that has really developed well as a defensive player communicates well and encourages all around him.

James Morrison Centre Back - Again Tall and strong and has just moved up from under 12s excellent tackler and is a formidable defensive partner with Seumas.

Ryan Macsween Right Back - Steady Right Back who tackles well and also has pace which makes him an attacking right back who works tirelessly up and down the right.

Stuart Macleod Left Back -- Although a right footed player Stuart plays with a calm and assured manner with simple but effective play

Dennis Macdonald Centre Mid - Dennis is a left footed midfielder who is exceptional in his passing, is a dead ball specialist and can hit a ball from distance, that some senior players would be proud of .

Hugh Morrison Centre Mid - Hugh works tirelessly has the ability to take on players and is a great attacking midfielder who distributes the ball really well Michael Macmillan Left Mid - Michael has great pace and works tirelessly up and down the left very intelligent player

Jordan Macleod Right Mid - Jordan is again one of the younger players who has made the step up from under 12s and is a great tackler and has excellent ball control , and crosses the ball really well.

Scott Montgomery Striker - What can be said about Scott other than that he knows were the goals are , his work rate is superb and he is difficult to defend against due to his movement and strength.

Andrew Campbell - Has played in a number of positions this season and has shown over the season that he has determination and is skilled on the ball

All the players below have mostly been on the subs bench but all of them have played at some stage this season and all have shown that they are capable of challenging for positions in the starting line up.

Lewis Macmillan Left Mid -

Ian Macleod - Right Mid/ Striker

Scott Macdonald - Left Mid/ Left Back

Jamie Macleod Left Back

Ross Macleod Goal Keeper

Kenny Macleod, the Back manager described his team as follows:

Goalkeeper, Innes Mackenzie has been playing well in his first season and is a good shot stopper. Eleanor Smith has had an outstanding season to date and is arguably the best full back in the league team captain.

James Macleod, goalkeeper/ central defender, commanding figure, excellent in the air both in defence and attack, who’s weighed in with a number of goals this season.

Calum Macrae, under 16 left back who’s season has been dogged by injury but on his day plays vital part in the heart of the defence.

Left back Finn Macphail another player who’s season has yet to get going through injury but a player who if fit plays an important part in the Back team.

On the right of midfield is Nicole Maclean, who’s pace and determination will cause problems for any defence

Stuart MacDonald, centre midfield another pacy midfielder with the ability to score goals,

Isabelle Bain, centre midfield a hard working player who’s ability to pick a pass brings others into he game.

Jamie Leslie an attacking midfielder who also defends well.

The forwards are Leanne MacDonald an excellent finisher who’s unselfish work provides chances for others, her font line partner could be provided by anyone of John Alexander MacIver, James Murray or Fraser MacDonald. The rest of the squad comprises Steven Drummond a no nonsense defensive midfielder, Jamie Boyle a tricky pacy attacking midfielder, Peter MacDonald another defensive midfielder and Louis MacDonald one of younger members of the squad whose performed very well in central defence this season.
