The promising campaign of the Nicolson Institute’s under 15 boys football team has come to a halt after an extra time defeat against Linlithgow.
Having brilliantly advanced to the fifth round of the Scottish Shield, the road to Hampden was denied in cruel fashion.
The Nicolson boys put in a great effort against a very strong and talented Linlithgow side.
Both sides had chances to win the tie in normal time but a combination of great defending and poor finishing kept the sides level.
The wheels came off for the Nicolson in a dispiriting first two minutes of extra time when they conceded two goals in quick succession. A third by Linlithgow put the game out of reach.
Coach, Angus Mackay commented afterwards: “It will have done the boys a lot of good to have experienced such a tough match and hopefully a few lessons have been learned. The boys still have the North of Scotland and North Regions cups to play for this season.”
