LONG time friends Jemma Marriott and Ruth Currie have both been picked in Team South Lanarkshire’s girls football squad for this year’s International Children’s Games.

The former Braidwood Primary School classmates and Milton Rovers team-mates (both 13) will line up in the six-a-side contests in Alkmaar, Holland in late June.

Ruth’s dad Tommy told Gazette Sport: “I’m over the moon that Jemma and Ruth have been picked.

“I’m thoroughly delighted for them.

“They will be trying to win gold medals for South Lanarkshire.

“Winning the tournament would be a lifetime ambition achieved and a dream come true.”

More than 1500 athletes aged between 12 and 50, from 80 cities, will compete in several disciplines at this year’s International Children’s Games between June 24 and 29. Sports contested will include football, athletics, golf, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, judo, beach volleyball and volleyball.

Central midfielder Jemma and right back Ruth are team-mates with Glasgow City under-15s.
