Grand Slam for Cancer Research

A fantastic night was had at the Bridge Club recently for Cancer Research.

There were 22 members which was the highest turnout this season. A huge thanks to everyone who kindly donated the magnificent raffle prizes, your generosity was staggering!

The raffle and table money raised over £350 and there was the added pleasure of welcoming the ladies from the Cancer Research Committee who came along to feed them cake during the interval.

Special thanks to Kay MacKay, Sheila Morrison, Margaret MacRitchie and Joan Stewart, the spread was delicious and very much appreciated.

There were also cakes to buy to take home and over £70 was collected from selling those. It was a remarkable achievement.

The Bridge was fun too with Norah MacDonald and Murdo Kennedy finding a Grand Slam on board 11.

They were the only pair to bid 7 and make 7. Murdo was lead a heart and the 10 on the table held and the remaining tricks were a piece of cake. (Okay so maybe it took a bit more effort than that but the analogy was good!) They had a great evening and were victorious with 61.88%.

In second place were Stewart and NL MacDonald. It was fantastic to see Stewart back at the Club after his enforced absence and looking so well. They ended the evening with 59.38%.

In third place were Ken MacDonald and Dave Gormley with 56.88%. Dave had cause for a double celebration as he also won Gerda Graauwmans’ delicious Apple Tart.

The first charity evening of the Season was a spectacular success with over £430 raised for Cancer Research – thank you.
