THE little zebra fish can heal its own heart. If we could do the same millions of lives would be saved and improved within decades.
But in order to find out more, scientists need to research what possibilities are out there and two Lewis ladies are set to help raise funds to further enable this.
Debra Vickers, BHF Cardiac Services Team Lead Nurse, and Karen Coles, Admin Support to the Team, are taking part in two events in Manchester on May 15 to raise funds for the BHF’s ‘Mending broken hearts appeal’.
Debra will be taking part in the British Gas Great Salford Swim which is a one mile swim in open water, and Karen will be taking part in the BUPA Great Manchester Run.
2011 marks the 50th Anniversary of the BHF, and they need to raise £50 million to fund groundbreaking research that could begin to literally ‘mend broken hearts’ in as little as ten years time.
At the moment, there is no cure for heart failure, however this research gives hope.
