Dr George Kerr CBE has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette by the Japanese government for his outstanding contribution to the promotion of judo and exchange and understanding between Japan and the UK.

Earlier this month, George was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours List and the prestigious Edinburgh Award.

George, who fronts The Scottish Salmon Company’s healthy living initiative, will later this month open his award winning Junior Judo Club in Stornoway which is being supported by The Scottish Salmon Company.

The badge which features rays of sunlight from the rising sun is considered to be one of the highest honours from Japan and is generally only awarded to politicians, military leaders, or royalty. Last year he was given the sport’s greatest honour when he was awarded the 10th Dan, a title held by only five other people in the world.
