The annual gathering of sailing and rowing craft, formerly known as Sail Hebrides, has continued as Sail Stornoway and will take place again in July 2015.
The week of water-bourne activities is timed so that participants can also experience the Hebridean Celtic Festival.
This year the events will have a special resonance as it is the 150th anniversary of the founding of the authority which runs Stornoway harbour, now SPA or Stornoway Port Authority.
To mark this, SPA have stepped in to support Sail Stornoway.
The week of maritime activities has included dinghy tuition, in contemporary one and two person craft as well as cruises in company and challenges for dayboats and yachts.
Regular sailings of the growing fleet of our indigenous North Lewis craft – the sgoth Niseach have added a recognisable feature, culminating in a hard fought ‘lugsail challenge’ at the end of the week.
There is also a revival of the ‘Coronation Cup’ challenge, based on a legendary race of working vessels.
