POINT resident Martin Flett came away from the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association (BDFPA) Scottish Championships with a hat trick – taking the Best Lifter Award; Best British Qualifying Totals in bench press and dead lift, and setting a Scottish Open Age Bench Press record.
Martin, who lives in Garrabost, said of the event which took place in Glasgow on September 6th: “For various reasons, I decided to switch from Great Britain Powerlifting Federation (GBPF) to BDFPA in 2013, and I had to take the Scottish Divisional Championships at short notice in order to qualify for the 2013 British Championships, which lead on to the European and World Championships later in the year.
“The weight categories are different in the two organisations. In GBPF I list in the 105 bodyweight class, but in BDFPA there’s a 100 and a 110 class.
“I want to get down to the 100s, but I didn’t have time to do it before the competition so I entered the 110s. That means I’ll have to lift in the 110s next year and aim for the 100s the year after.”
