Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, has welcomed the announcement from sportscotland of a further four-year investment into its successful Active Schools Network.
The announcement will see £50 million invested into Active Schools across all 32 of Scotland’s local authorities from April 1st 2015 to March 31st 2019, and will continue to develop opportunities available to children and young people to participate in sport and physical activity before school, during lunch, and after school.
Cllr Alasdair Macleod, Chair of Sustainable Development at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said: “We are delighted to have confirmation from the Scottish Government of the offer of support for our Active Schools service for the next four years.
“The programme has been very popular and highly effective during ten years of Active Schools and we look forward to it continuing to benefit our communities for the next four years.
“The Comhairle continues to work in partnership with volunteers and other organizations in order to successfully increase participation in a whole range of activities.”
A total of 1,419 pupils benefitted from at least one of the 1,287 extra-curricular activity sessions during the school year 2013-14, delivered by 189 deliverers across the Western Isles.
