Four members of the Western Isles shooting team - Donald MacInnes, Donald Walker, Archie MacVicar and Mick Cole - have been in action in the run up to the NatWest Island Games in the Isle of Wight.
The Highland & Islands Challenge Cup held at Benbecula attracted teams from Shetland, two from Orkney, Harris, Deephaven, South Uist and Benbecula, a total of seven teams of five shooters. A two day event consisting of 100 birds Automatic Ball Trap and 100 birds Down The Line, high winds and showers on both days made for challenging targets with a little added bonus when the sun appeared.
Orkney took the honours on day one in the ABT with Benbecula’s Donald MacInnes winning the high gun. Day two saw stiff competition between Orkney and Shetland with Shetland just taking the team DTL with Orkney’s Craig Smith taking high Gun. The overall winners of the Highland and Islands Challenge Cup for the second year running were Shetland with Orkney’s Craig Smith taking overall high gun with Donald MacInnes second just four points adrift.
