Just over a month since his appointment as manager of Camanachd Leòdhais, Duncan MacIntyre has already had a sizeable effect on the sport of the Gael in Lewis & Harris.
Since taking over from Iain Sinclair, MacIntyre has sought to swiftly build on the foundations put in place by Sinclair. Training numbers are high and consistent, with a lengthy pre-season already in progress under the watchful eyes of newly appointed fitness coaches Will Church and Ally Lamont. MacIntyre is aiming to have three preseason fixtures in place for February, and his predecessor will have vital role in that, Sinclair being named fixture secretary.
The appointment of Scottish Women’s Assistant Coach, Eòghan Stewart, as Head of Youth Development has been another key decision. The club has now established the first team on a secure basis in the shinty firmament but over the last couple of years there had been a drift in terms of youth development and this had been identified as a potential problem with the squad getting older and/or moving away from the island.
