It’s a busy month for Stornoway RNLI as next weekend sees the first ever Stornoway Lifeboat Station 5k Fundraiser, as well as the station’s annual Open Day.

Supported by Stornoway Round Table and taking place on Saturday, July 19th, the aim of the game at the Stornoway Lifeboat Station 5k is simply to join in and take part!

Fun for all the family, it doesn’t matter if you’re a couch potato or marathon elite, you can walk, jog or run the 5k course through Lews Castle Grounds to cross the finish line. And prams, dogs and buggies are welcome too so there’s no excuse for not getting involved.

There will be a first prize from the work or club or organisation team to enter the most participants as runners, joggers or walkers.

Departing from Cuddy Point, the Stornoway Lifeboat Station 5k is open to all ages and is a great opportunity to have fun and support your local lifesavers and the ‘Tom Sanderson’ RNLI all-weather lifeboat.

It takes over £1,000 to kit out an RNLI all-weather lifeboat man from gloves and wellies to lifejackets and all in between. And the daily running cost for the RNLI charity as a whole is around £385,000.

It won’t take much to show your support as to enter the 5k Fundraiser for adults (over 16s and left school) is £5, Secondary pupils £2, and Primary pupils £1.
Primary age children must be accompanied by a responsible adults at all times.

To register and pay for the event, simply turn up on Saturday, July 19th, at Cuddy Point from 10am onwards and the Stornoway Lifeboat Station 5k will start at 11am.

And after you’ve enjoyed the 5k Fundraiser, why not continue and call into the town’s RNLI Station for Stornoway RNLI’s annual Open Day.
Running from 12noon to 5pm on Saturday, July 19th, there will be fun for all the family with teas, tours of the station and boat, games, stalls and much more – including the RNLI v Coastguard Tug-O-War competition!

Today (Thursday, July 10th) and tomorrow Friday 11th, the Stornoway Lifeboat Ladies Guild hold a Raffle in the Co-operative Store, Stornoway. Make sure you pick up a ticket for the chance to win some fabulous prizes!
