Swim Western Isles has had a busy couple of weeks with club members taking part in the annual club championship and representing their schools and the club at the Highland and Western Isles Schools Championship in Inverness.

The club championship was held at the ISL pool and the majority of the club swimmers took part.

There were many excellent swims on the evening and a large number of personal best times and some club records were posted.

Overall winners of the club championship were 10 and Under Champions, Hannah Nicolson and Ryan Campbell, 11-12 years champions Ania Lisowska and Gabriel Nicolson, 13-14 years champions Isla Budge and Matthew Hanlon and senior girls champion Rebekah Murray.

Many thanks to all of the poolside helpers and a special mention to the recently qualified Level 1 swimming teachers from the club, partly funded by support from Lewis and Harris Sports Council , who have helped the new members progress.

Following on from this the largest contingent of swimmers from Lewis possibly ever, travelled to the Schools competition at the Inverness aquadome to take on swimmers from across the Highlands with the aim of making the finals in Glasgow next January.

This event requires swimmers to meet qualification standards to enter and in total 21 swimmers from Lionel, Tolsta, Laxdale and Stornoway primary schools and the Nicolson Institute, all also members of Swim Western Isles, had times that enabled them to compete.

The swimmers did exceptionally well and brought back a total of 16 medals including golds for Katie Murray, Ania Lisowska, Lucienne Doig, Matthew Hanlon, Isla Budge and Gabriel Nicolson, silvers for Rebekah Murray, Lucienne Doig Matthew Hanlon, Isa Budge and Ellen Macleod and bronze for Findlay Read, Ania Lisowska, Ellen Macloed and Ciaran Murray.

The top three swimmers for each of the events go forward for consideration for the national finals, good luck to all who qualified.
