The Nicolson Institute senior girls rugby side played their first EVER competitive 15-a-side match last week.
Their opponents at Bayhead Pitch, Stornoway, were a very well organised Ayr side but despite their inexperience the island girls performed admirably well.
Boasting bags of commitment, desire and a fearlessness best displayed with a series of bone crunching tackles the girls were a credit to themselves and the school.
Ayr took the win in the end but it was no walk in the park for the far travelled visitors who knew they were in for a tough challenge.
The final score of 35-12 proved how much the Stornoway schoolgirls put into the match with Jodie Sinclair and Shona Marie Mackinnon each scoring a precious try.
Jodie also converted one of her conversions.
Unfortunately there was an injury suffered by one of the Nicolson girls when Evelyn Macdonald went down clutching her knee.
She was taken quickly to hospital and all at the Nicolson Institute wish her a speedy recovery.
