Take a cycle or lift some weights in the Ionad Spors Leodhais Fitness Centre and you could be using the very same equipment as Olympian hero Chris Hoy or the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt!
The Lewis Sports Centre has been able to purchase a new cycle machine and selection of free weights which were used by Olympic competitors in the Athletes Village of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The equipment has been bought at a reduced price as part of the Games Legacy programme, and welcoming its arrival Sports Centre manager Tony Wade said: “We were very pleased to be offered the equipment and it’s great to see the London Olympic Legacy programme reaching all the way up to Stornoway.
“Of course, we can all imagine that Chris Hoy using the cycle for a warm up, or that Usain Bolt lifted one of the dumbbells. Perhaps it might inspire some future island Olympic hopefuls!”
